Camellia Betty Sanders

(japonica) An upright variety possessing the typical bright, shiny green japonica foliage. The unusual semi-double blossom is of a very pale pink spotted and marbled with cherry red, with a heart of golden stamens. Blooms from February to April.

Use
Indoors: keep the plant inside in a cool room only when blooming, and water regularly. Outdoors: as an isolated specimen or in association with other acid-loving shrubs such as Azaleas, Magnolias or Rhododendrons. Patio or terrace: in a large container, or may be trained against a wall or trellis.

Planting
Ideally in partial shade, protected from cold winds. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and half-fill it with an acid compost. Remove the plant from its container and thoroughly soak the root ball. Place the plant (not too deeply) in the hole. Finish adding the compost. Water well.

Maintenance
Water regularly during flowering and dry weather. Add a specialised fertiliser each spring. Takes well to pruning after blooming.
