Sun Flowerbeds or containers in full sun.
At the end of August, repot the plant in a mixture of 1/4 garden soil, 1/4 sand, 1/4 mixture of peat, bark and coconut fibre, and 1/4 compost. Allow sufficient drainage at the bottom of the pot by filling it to 1/5th of its depth with clay marbles or pottery shards. Bulbs should be spaced 2–3cm apart and planted at a depth of 1.5–2cm.
Lachenalia can be grown in a frost-protected veranda and will flower in winter if it has been kept dry in its pot for 2 months. As soon as the shoots appear at the surface of the soil, bring the container into a warmer space and begin to water it again, adding a fertiliser for flowering bulbs.
