Firmiana simplex
Chinese parasol tree. This Asian native is a medium-sized tree with large, deciduous leaves similar in shape to those of a fig tree. The foliage turns golden before falling in autumn. Panicles of yellowish-green flowers in summer are followed by unusual, pinkish seed capsules.

Planting
In sun or part shade, sheltered from cold winds, in rich, cool, well-draining soil.

Water the tree regularly during the first two years, especially in summer. Avoid pruning unless necessary.
