Tibouchina urvilleana Edwardsii

This Tibouchina variety has strikingly large, deep-violet flowers and is slightly more compact than the species. A large Brazilian shrub, Tibouchina forms a short trunk and very delicate long stems with large, fuzzy green leaves. The stunning blossoms appear in late summer and can last through to the middle of autumn.

Use

In beds and borders in regions with very mild climates; elsewhere, in a container that can be brought into a conservatory in the winter.

Planting

In sun or part shade, in rich, well-draining neutral to acid soil that retains some moisture year-round. Remove the plant from its container and thoroughly soak the root ball. Place the plant (not too deeply) in a hole with a mixture of loose soil and topsoil around the root ball, gently tamping the earth. Water in.

Maintenance

Water well the first year, but do not overwater in winter. Add an appropriate fertiliser in spring. Prune after flowering in autumn for a bushier plant.
