Puya mirabilis



This spiky-leaved Andean native forms a rosette of long, slender grey-green foliage with bright-red thorns along their edges. Mature plants bloom in summer with a spike of pretty, yellow-green blossom.

Use

In rockeries, beds, borders and pots.

Planting

In full sun, in ordinary, well-draining soil. Remove the plant from its container and thoroughly soak the root ball. Place the plant (not too deeply) in a hole with a mixture of loose soil and topsoil around the root-ball, gently tamping the earth. Water in.

Maintenance

Water well the first year. Apply an appropriate fertiliser in spring.
