Aronia Nero

(melanocarpa) This rather slow-growing shrub produces fragrant white blossoms in spring which are followed by vitamin-C and antioxydant-rich edible black berries. Its deep green foliage turns reddish-orange in autumn. Nero is a self-fertilising variety.

Use

In beds, borders and containers. Works well as a low hedging plant.

Planting

In sun or part shade, in lime-free soil. Remove the plant from its container and thoroughly soak the root ball. Place the plant (not too deeply) in a hole with a mixture of loose soil and topsoil around the root-ball, gently tamping the earth. Water in.

Maintenance

Water well the first year, and prune out the oldest branches at the end of winter. Apply an appropriate fertiliser in spring.
