Use

Vireyas can be planted in a sheltered garden, in containers, patio pots and conservatories. Some of the creeping varieties can even be used in a low basket. In the garden, vireyas need similar conditions to evergreen azaleas: good light levels and full sun to dappled shade (though some protection against full summer sun is beneficial). They do not appreciate strong wind and require protection from all but the lightest frost.

Planting

Dig a hole three times the size of the root ball and half-fill it with an acid compost. Place the plant (not too deeply) in the hole. Finish adding the compost, and water well.

Maintenance

Water regularly during flowering and dry weather. Add a specialised fertiliser each spring. Remove dead flowers.
